About KIDS

KIDS is a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970. 

We work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years.  Between 2019-2020 we supported over 13,700 disabled children, offered over 120 different services and work with about 80 Local Authorities across England.  

We are passionate, caring and trusted and our vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations. We offer support and practical help for families, every step of the way.

About The Role
Are you a person who really wants to make a difference to people’s lives? If so the role of support worker / playworker might be for you.

We are currently looking for support workers to provide short breaks for disabled children and young people, supporting them to access a variety of activities, promoting independence, inclusion and learning, and engaging positive activities. Whilst working in a person centred way, providing practical and emotional support to the child or young person, to enable them to meet the goals and outcomes identified in their support plan.


Short breaks are provided 1:1 basis in the community and in a child or young person’s home. Our breaks are designed around the child or young person and their interests and hobbies, so during a break as a support worker you may take a child swimming, to a local park, or perhaps to the shops.

This is a sessional position offering flexible working hours during weekends and school holidays. There are also a number of areas where the service runs, which includes Camden, Harrow, Hounslow, Waltham Forest and Hackney.

The hourly rate is £10.85 per hour plus you accrue an extra £1.31 per hour holiday pay.
About You
We are looking for caring, enthusiastic individuals to support disabled children and young people on a 1-1 basis in the London Borough of Hackney.
  • To be able to carry out this role as a support worker we would expect you to have the following characteristics:


    • Experience of working with disabled children is desirable but not essential.

    • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of disabled children and young people and a commitment to safeguarding.

    • Strong interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work on your own and use initiative.

    • Available to work school holidays and weekends.
