About KIDS

KIDS are a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970. 

We work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years.  Each year we support over 15,000 disabled children, offer over 120 different services and work with about 80 Local Authorities across England.  

We are passionate, caring and trusted and our vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations. We offer support and practical help for families, every step of the way.

About The Role

The overall purpose of this role is:

As a Play Worker, you will be working directly with disabled children, or young people and their families, to support them with their needs.  This is an opportunity to develop your skills in a rewarding role, and gain a strong sense of achievement.

  • To work as part of a team supporting the provision of an exciting and challenging programme of activities in a safe and stimulating environment for children/young people with a range of disabilities/additional needs such as autism, behavioural, learning and emotional difficulties.
  • To work in partnership with parents/carers.
  • To encourage the children to play adventurously, creatively and imaginatively, and to enable them to obtain the full benefit of the facilities provided by the service.
 
This is a sessional position offering flexible working hours during evenings, weekends and school holidays.
 
Please note the playscheme runs between 27 July - 4 September and you must be available to attend the mandatory training week 20 - 24 July
 
 The hourly rate is £8.21 per hour plus you accrue an extra £1.04p per hour holiday pay.
 
 
About You
 
To be able to carry out this role it is essential that you have the following characteristics:
 
  • The successful candidate will need to be educated to GCSE level, or have a NVQ level 2 as a minimum. 
  • Candidates will need to demonstrate a commitment to working in partnership with parents/carers, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team and will need to have a fun and open minded attitude to play. 
  • In addition the candidate will need to a have the ability to be pro-active and use their own initiative as well as the ability to work under pressure
  • Car Driver desirable
