About KIDS
KIDS is a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and families since 1970.
 
We work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years.  Each year we support over 13,700 children, young people and families supported across over 80 services
 
We are passionate, caring and trusted and our vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations.  We offer support and practical help for families, every step of the way.

About The Role
Are you a person who really wants to make a difference to people’s lives? If so this might be the job for you.

We are currently looking for someone to provide a short break for disabled children and young people supporting them to access a variety of activities, promote independence, inclusion and learning and to engage positive activities. Whilst working in a person centred way, providing practical and emotional support to the child/young person to enable them to meet the goals and outcomes identified in their support plan.
 
Limited ad hoc hours available on an as and when basis (mainly evenings, weekends, and school holidays). This is a sessional position offering flexible working hours during evenings, weekends and school holidays.

The hourly rate is £8.86 per hour plus you accrue an extra £1.07 per hour holiday pay.
About You
 
To be able to carry out this role we would expect you to have the following characteristics:
  • 1 year experience working with disabled children or young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Effective communication skills including adapting communication styles to the individual, report/observation writing, verbal, non-verbal and advocacy awareness
  • Willing to provide personal care and support in accordance with the individual’s needs and preferences, as stated in their care and support plan.
