About KIDS
KIDS are a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970.

We work with children from birth through to 25 years.  Each year we support over 15000 disabled children, offer over 120 different services and work with about 80 Local Authorities across England.

We are passionate, caring and trusted and our vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations. We offer support and practical help for families, every step of the way.
About The Role

KIDS Camden are urgently recruiting Short Break Workers (to start in September 2021). This is a rolling application process.

We are looking for experienced, committed workers who have worked with disabled children /adults before. Preferably this experience would be as 1:1 support carer in a community setting. Short Break Workers support children / young people with a number of disabilities, such as: autism, down syndrome, learning difficulties, nonverbal communicators and those who are physically disabled.

Short Breaks are on a 1:1 basis in the community and or in the child or young person’s home. Our breaks are designed around the child or young person’s interests and hobbies. As a Short Break Worker, during a break, you may take the child or young person swimming, possibly to a café afterwards to practice their communication and social skills and then you may take the bus back to their home. You may also visit local sites, museums and activity centres (trampolining / ice skating) within London. The breaks are person centred and designed to promote independence for the child or young person whilst also providing respite for their family/ primary carers.

The hours are after school pick up (3.15pm onwards) and or weekends / holidays. All the families we support reside in the borough of Camden.

This role is only available to applicants who can commit to a minimum of 6 months (once you have been matched to a family / young person).

Although you are a sessional worker on a zero-hour contract, there are a guaranteed hours on a monthly basis. For example, some Short Break Workers work a minimum of 5 hrs per week (on Saturdays/ Sundays) equalling 20hrs per month, whilst others work 3 x 3hr sessions per week equalling 9 hrs per week, equalling 36hrs per month.

The hourly rate is £10.85 per hour, plus you accrue an extra £1.31 per hour holiday pay.
