About KIDS
KIDS are a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970.
We work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years.  Each year we support over 15000 disabled children, offer over 120 different services and work with about 80 Local Authorities across England.

About The Role
Are you a person who really wants to make a difference to people’s lives? Are you looking to return to work from retirement? Or a Teaching Assistant or similar profession with extra hours to spare currently?If so this might be the job for you.

We are currently looking for someone to provide a short break for disabled children and young people supporting them to access a variety of activities, promote independence, inclusion and learning and to engage positive activities.  Whilst working in a person centred way providing practical and emotional support to the child/young person, to enable them to meet the goals and outcomes identified in their support plan.
Ad hoc hours available on an as and when basis (mainly evenings, weekends, and school holidays). This is a sessional position offering flexible working hours during evenings, weekends and school holidays. There are also a number of areas where the service runs, which includes Camden, Harrow, Hounslow, Waltham Forest and Hackney.

Short breaks are on a 1:1 basis in the community and in a child or young person’s home. Our breaks are designed around the child or young person and their interests and hobbies, so during a break you may take a child swimming, to a local park, or perhaps to the shops.
The hourly rate is £9.78 per hour plus you accrue an extra £1.18 per hour holiday pay.
About You
We are looking for caring, enthusiastic individuals to support disabled children and young people up to the age of  25 Years Old on a 1-1 basis in the London Borough of Camden.
To be able to carry out this role we would expect you to have the following characteristics:
  • 1 year experience working with disabled children or young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Effective communication skills including adapting communication styles to the individual, report/observation writing, verbal, non-verbal and advocacy awareness
  • Willing to provide personal care and support in accordance with the individual’s needs and preferences, as stated in their care and support plan
