About KIDS
KIDS are a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970.

We work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years.  Each year we support over 15000 disabled children, offer over 120 different services and work with about 80 Local Authorities across England.

We are passionate, caring and trusted and our vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations. We offer support and practical help for families, every step of the way.

About The Role
KIDS seek to recruit dynamic individuals with passion, drive and energy to work for this fantastic service. KIDS provides support and mentoring to disabled young people aged 0-25 and you will play a key role in enabling young people to access social, leisure and play opportunities in their local community, increasing independence, confidence, self-esteem and life skills.

We are currently looking for someone to provide a short break for disabled children and young people supporting them to access a variety of activities, promote independence, inclusion and learning and to engage positive activities. Whilst working in a person centred way, providing practical and emotional support to the child/young person to enable them to meet the goals and outcomes identified in their support plan.
 
Please note that this is not a full time post - hours are worked on an ad-hoc basis and will consist of approximately 2-10 hours per week. Flexible working hours including evenings, weekends and school holidays.An enhanced DBS check will be required, however this will be paid for by KIDS.
 
Various locations of work are available within the Staffordshire area including Tamworth, Lichfield, Cannock Chase, South Staffordshire. Please note you only need to submit one application if you are interested in more than one area.

The hourly rate is £8.40 per hour plus you accrue an extra £1.01 per hour holiday pay.
About You
To be able to carry out this role we would expect you to have the following characteristics:
  • 1 year experience working with disabled children or young people
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant qualification. Training (e-learning) will be provided
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Effective communication skills including adapting communication styles to the individual, report/observation writing, verbal, non-verbal and advocacy awareness
  • Willing to provide personal care and support in accordance with the individual’s needs and preferences, as stated in their care and support plan.
  • Car drivers essential in order to meet the requirements of the service.
  • Hours are very flexible and can work around family commitments or a second job.
